Nashville native Scotty Hasting joined the Army in 2010 as an infantryman, beginning his military journey with the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas.
During his service in Afghanistan, Hasting earned both a Purple Heart and a Combat Infantry Badge. After being injured in combat, he found a new passion in archery through the U.S. Paralympic program, where he excelled.

Sheldon’s medic training led him to the 97th General Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany, a critical assignment during the Cold War. In August 1968, when Soviet-led Warsaw Pact forces invaded Czechoslovakia, the hospital was placed on high alert, prepared to handle mass casualties if tensions escalated into open conflict. Just 70 miles from the East German border, the hospital's role was vital in safeguarding soldiers and their families. For his service, Sheldon was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

December 05, 2024One of Barmore's most harrowing experiences occurred on May 5, 1944, during a bombing mission over Ploesti, Romania. His B-24 was struck, leaving two gunners critically injured. Barmore assisted the wounded crew members in parachuting to safety before escaping the burning plane himself. Sadly, the injured gunners later succumbed to their wounds. Barmore and the remaining crew were captured and held as prisoners of war (POW) in Bucharest.

Despite facing stereotypes, inadequate training, and low survival odds, Tso played a critical role in ensuring his company’s safe retreat. His leadership and decisiveness earned him the rank of staff sergeant and numerous honors, including the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars, the Combat Infantry Badge, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. Reflecting on his service, Tso later remarked, “It was a long overseas journey from Monterey, CA, to Korea aboard a naval ship.”

His Coast Guard career, spanning from 1979 to 1988, saw him serve as an electronics technician. One of the highlights of his service was his assignment to the USCG Electronic Systems Support Detachment in Ketchikan, Alaska, from 1985 to 1988. In this role, Spielman traveled extensively across Alaska, ensuring the maintenance and repair of electronic systems aboard various Coast Guard vessels and aircraft.
