This week’s Veterans Spotlight shines on Michael Clothier.
This week’s Honoring Veterans spotlight features Navy Veteran Michael Clothier, who served from 1987 to 1991.
Born in June 1965, Clothier attended John Dickinson High School in Wilmington, Delaware, before continuing his education at Hodgson Vocational School, where he discovered his passion for electrical trades. He joined the Navy in October 1987 as an electrician and served honorably until 1991, concluding his service on the USS Spartanburg County (LST-1192) as a petty officer third class.
During his service, Clothier received several commendations, including the Coast Guard Special Operations Ribbon, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, and Kuwait Liberation Medal from both Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
After his time in the Navy, Clothier continued to serve his community, applying the electrician skills he developed in the military. He recently contributed as a master electrician in the construction of an Amazon warehouse in Wilmington.
Clothier currently serves as the commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #2863 in Wilmington. He actively participates in Veterans’ events, especially Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies. Additionally, he is a dedicated supporter of local children, organizing seasonal parties, hosting family dinners, and sponsoring Soapbox Derby Races through his VFW post.
