Veteran Spotlight - Robert Wiggins
This week’s Veterans Spotlight shines on Robert Wiggin
Marine Corps Veteran Robert Wiggins, a Texas native, graduated from Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School in 2007.
Following graduation, Wiggins completed his basic training in San Diego, California. During his 10-year tenure with the Marine Corps, he served worldwide, with deployments in Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.
Wiggins held the position of squad leader in the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, an infantry unit established in 1914 that has participated in every major U.S. conflict since its inception. He was also involved with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, a rapid response force, during deployments to Afghanistan in 2011 and 2013. Additionally, he served in Japan, Korea, Thailand, and the Philippines.
In May 2014, Wiggins' regiment was deployed to Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia, where he led his platoon in a joint training exercise with the Australian Defence Force to enhance cooperation between the two militaries.
In the later years of his service, Wiggins worked as a recruiter at the U.S. Marine Corps Recruiting Station in Seattle, Washington. He then pursued an Associate of Science in Psychology from Portland Community College while working as a community outreach coordinator at the Veterans Resource Center, where he helped build strong connections between Veterans and the local community.
