R-rated medium-voltage fuses are backup fuses for short-circuit protection of medium-voltage motors and motor controllers. They work in conjunction with motor starters and overload relays, which provide overload protection for a circuit. These current-limiting fuses prevent electrical damage by disconnecting circuits before they're exposed to the full magnitude and duration of an overcurrent.
