They can withstand exposure to solvents, corrosive environments, and temperature extremes, but they are not recommended for heavily acidic or basic environments. The wheels can be steam cleaned, and they will not chunk or separate. Nylon tread wheels are often used in food-processing operations, poultry- and meat-packaging plants, and pharmaceutical labs.

These wheels have plastic or phenolic treads and cores that resist corrosion. The wheels' tread and core are made from the same material. The wheels' hard treads provide smooth rolling and good maneuverability and are less damaging to floors than wheels with metal treads.
