Ratcheting flare nut wrenches have a gear mechanism on the single head that allows the wrench to rotate freely in one direction without removing the wrench head from the fastener and repositioning the wrench. These metric wrenches have a head design on one end of the handle that allows for full contact around the fastener while allowing a line or other obstruction to pass through it. The opposite end provides a more secure grip on the full length of the handle than a double end flare nut wrench. The 12-pt. design has additional grooves that make it easier to connect with the head of the fastener and connect at more angles for better accessibility compared to a 6-pt. wrench.
